I really didn’t want to like Monat, a plant-based hair care line, but a few things conspired to make me a believer. 1) The shampoo and conditioner I had been using for years became so heavily scented that I could no longer tolerate it. 2) My friend Klaudya is a hair dresser and Monat Market Partner, and I like to support my friends’ businesses. 3) I tried Monat’s Revive Shampoo and Revitalize Conditioner.

Disclosures and Disclaimers

The first thing I noticed about the shampoo and conditioner was the clean, plant-like scent. I chose the Revive Shampoo and Revitalize Conditioner because my fine hair needs volume, and the duo delivers. I also have the oily skin and hair of a 13-year-old. I’ve tried other plant-based and essential oil-infused shampoos and conditioners, but by midday, my hair would start looking like it hadn’t been washed that morning. The just-washed look lasts all day and even into the next day with Monat.

The reasons I didn’t want to like Monat was because I thought it was expensive, and I didn’t want another monthly auto ship product. After using Monat for several months, it’s not as expensive as I first thought. An 8-ounce bottle lasts at least 6 weeks for me, and I shampoo and condition my hair every day. I use a quarter-size amount. I’ve found that quality products may cost a bit more, but usually a little goes a long way with such products.

I became a Monat VIP, which gives me a discount on all products, as well as for most months, a choice of a free product and two samples, further stretching my dollars. Part of being a Monat VIP is Flexship, which I have scheduled for every other month and have pushed out even further when necessary. So, no monthly auto ship, unless I want to set it up that way.

I recently became a Monat Market Partner, which is basically a distributor, because I’m going to continue to use Monat, regardless of whether I sell one bottle of shampoo, conditioner or other Monat products, and I get an even bigger discount on all products. But here’s the thing, hair care is a consumable product; meaning the majority of people at least use shampoo. Hair is also one of the first things notice, for the most obvious reason; it’s on top of your head. Thanks to my hair dresser and Monat, I have a good hair day every day. Most days, I’m able to let my hair air dry and only use a bit of hair spray as a finishing touch.

Other Monat products I’ve tried and loved include: Reshape Root Lifter, Refinish Control Hairspray, The Champ Conditioning Dry Shampoo, Thickening Spray, and Clarifying Shampoo, which I use once a week. I also recently ordered the Bring on the Magic Holiday Collection, Chocolate Crave Body Exfoliant, and Oil Drop Logo Hair Clip Set from Monat’s limited edition holiday offerings, some of which have already sold out.
