Spring is the season of renewal and, perhaps, reflection. As the cold, bare landscape of Winter gives way to Spring’s rebirth and warmer, brighter days, I find myself thinking back to a year ago, when I first began a life-changing journey.

Disclosures and Disclaimers

I had been researching essential oils and was on the diving board, ready to take the plunge. I’m not a dip-my-toe-in-the-water type of girl. My friend, Kim Hebert, gave me a gentle push, and in I went, head first. She had posted about her success in using essential oils to ease seasonal sniffles, sneezes, headaches, coughing and itchy, watery eyes. While these seasonal discomforts may affect the majority of people during Spring’s rebirth, they were pretty much year round for me. And so, in March 2015, I purchased my first essential oil starter kit.

Fast forward a year to the here and now to see how far my oily journey has taken me:

Seasonal support – I diffuse peppermint, lavender and lemon 24/7, adding RC at night. I take the trio in roller bottle form with me when I travel. I continue to use sub-lingual (under the tongue) drops from my allergy doctor. He was so impressed by my improvement that he recently partnered with me to offer essential oils in his practice. I never thought I would ever be able to breathe clearly, and now I do. I can also wear my contacts late into the night, if need be. This is the number one reason I started using and continue to use essential oils.

Immunity Booster – I have not been sick in a year. Repeat: I have not been sick in a year. I swipe a roller bottle of Purification, Thieves and Oregano, topped with a carrier oil, on the bottoms of my feet every time I leave the house. As if the time frame isn’t significant enough, I’ve lived in the same house with a spouse who had the flu, and my work has taken me to D.C., Baltimore, Dallas, St. Louis, New York and California in the past year. Large numbers of sick, hacking people in airports, planes and offices. Me – Not Sick.

Health and Beauty – A combination of lavender, cedarwood and rosemary has strengthen and lengthened my hair. My Hair God has noticed the difference. A drop each of lavender and cedarwood has lengthened and strengthened my lashes. My essential oil-based facial care has greatly improved my acne-prone skin. My bath salts and soap and lotion bars are quick, simple inexpensive treats to me and lucky friends and family.

Life’s Maladies – When the husband had shoulder surgery in the fall, he had already been using my oil blends for various things. Jeff had gone from calling me Witch Hazel and telling me I needed to have a black, pointed hat on while making my concoctions to asking if there were any oils for this, that and the other. The damage on his shoulder was pretty bad, and it took three procedures and several weeks of rehab to repair it. Cool Azul sports gel helped greatly with the pain and lessened his need for pain pills. I take the blends I use for headaches, tummy issues, seasonal support, pain, immunity, etc. with me when I travel for work or otherwise. Even the most skeptical of my co-workers has been surprised to find that essential oils have provided relief from a headache, sniffles or tummy problems. I frequently return home with fewer roller bottles.

I’ve come a long way in a year, and hope to have a long way to go, learning, sharing and educating others about essential oils. As more and more scientific research is conducted on essential oils, I don’t think one can study for a year or two and claim to know all there is to know about essential oils. I believe it is a continuous learning process. But that’s OK with me; Essential oils are a lifestyle for me now.

Looking ahead to the next several months, I will be learning as much as I can about essential oils, while getting certified in French Aromatherapy and fully certified in Aromatherapy, and hoping to teach some classes at Micheal’s, Hobby Lobby or whomever will have me on making diffuser jewelry, soap and lotion bars, and a host of other things.

Until next time, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating my oiliversity. My first Young Living Premium Starter Kit was $150. The same kit is now $160, which is still a great deal, considering it retails for over $300.
