Recently, a friend told me to send her my blog and how to order essential oils. Yay, right?! If you tune into Oils & Spoils regularly, you know I’m passionate about essential oils, particularly essential oil education, and that I’m a Young Living Essential Oils distributor. I frequently post essential oil educational pieces on my blog, and I am in the business of essential oils. Admittedly, I am probably not the best business person where essential oils are concerned, because 1) I believe education (using essential oils safely) is more important than sales, and 2) If I never sell another bottle of essential oils, I will still go on using them.
My concern for my interested friend stems from knowing firsthand how overwhelming getting started with essential oils can be. So, if you’re newly interested in essential oils, I would like to share my experience with you on why and how I started using essential oils, and offer my assistance in getting you started.
My Why
You know those sniffles, sneezes, coughs and itchy, watery eyes that are seasonal for some? Well, they’re year around for me, and everything in the air is a catalyst. Once a week for 5 years, I got a shot in each arm to lessen the symptoms. Then, I found a doctor who gave me drops I could take under my tongue. The drops worked better than the shots, but I had given up hope of ever breathing clearly. I would have to take my contacts out late afternoon almost every day, due to the discomfort.
Separately, I began to take an interest in essential oils. I started researching. A couple of my friends were distributors. And then, one day, one of those friends posted about how the essential oils helped her with the same things that ailed me. She was a Young Living Essential Oils distributor. So, I researched Young Living Essential Oils. What I found, coupled with her results, convinced me to try essential oils.
How To Get Started Using Essential Oils
As I did, I encourage you to research the different essential oil companies. Where and how do they source their oils? How are the oils processed? What does the label on the bottle say? How do you want to use the oils? Can you visit where the oils are processed? Just the act of researching essential oils can be overwhelming.
Initially, I diffused essential oils, but then I began to use them topically and internally. So, if you want to maximize your use of essential oils, you’ll want to chose good, quality oils that indicate on the label that they can be used in these ways. Which brings me to why I chose Young Living Essential Oils. The company owns their own farms here in the United States and around the world. They control the process, from seed to seal. Every bottle has a number on it that can be used to trace the origin of that bottle of oil. I can visit their farms and help plant some of the plants used in their essential oils. I can watch them steam distill some of their essential oils from those plants. All of that was important to me. How many companies, in general, will let you participate in and watch their processes?
Once I made the decision to go with Young Living Essential Oils, I ordered their Premium Starter Kit for several reasons. It was the most bang for my buck. The Premium Starter Kit is $160, but the retail value of all the items in the kit is well over double that amount. The Premium Starter Kit had all I needed to get started, and then some. It comes with either the Dewdrop or Home diffuser (your choice), 11 oils, 2 packs of Ningxia Red, sample packets of 5 essential oils and blends, a roller fitment, 10 vials and sample cards, and information to help you get started using essential oils. Ordering the Premium Starter Kit also made me a Young Living Essential Oils member, which means I get a 24-percent-off -retail discount, or wholesale pricing, on all my orders, as long as I order $50 within a year, which has not been a problem.
Being a Young Living Essential Oils member has other benefits, aside from saving 24 percent each time I order. Young Living Essential Oils’ customer service is awesome and can be reached most anytime via phone, email or chat. My friend whose post captured my attention? She’s my enroller, and she has answered the tons of questions I had in the beginning and continues to be a great support in my oily journey. Another benefit of being a Young Living Essential Oils member is that you can order whenever you want. Being a member does not mean you have to deal with an auto ship order every month. Young Living Essential Oils also has over 84 single essential oils and 83 essential oil blends, as well as supplements, bath and body products, oily accessories, and more.
Not to lose sight of the most important items in the Premium Starter Kit, below are the essential oils and blends that come with the kit and how I most of them every day:
DiGize: Great for tummy issues. I have a Tummy Tamer roller bottle of DiGize, Peppermint and a carrier oil. I roll it directly on my stomach when it’s not being so kind to me. DiGize is a proprietary blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise and Patchouli essential oils.
Lemon: Lemon joins Peppermint and Lavender every day in my diffuser that’s in my office. The first time I diffused the trio, all that “seasonal” stuff cleared. So much so, that even my allergy doctor noticed and got his own Premium Starter Kit. Lemon is also a good cleaner, particularly for removing sticker remnants.
Lavender: See above and also check out this post I wrote, just on Lavender. Lavender is my favorite single essential oil, and I use it every day in many ways.
Peppermint: See above. Behind Lavender, Peppermint is my second most versatile essential oil single. When I have a killer headache, and I’ve tried several things, I’ll roll some peppermint on my temples and the back of my neck. A drop of peppermint in a cup of hot cocoa or 5-6 drops in a brownie mix are super yummy!
Thieves: Thieves is a proprietary blend of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary, Lemon and Eucalyptus Radiata essential oils. I use a drop of Thieves on my toothpaste for better oral health. Thieves is a main ingredient in my Immunity Booster roller bottle. My Immunity Booster contains Thieves, Purification, Oregano and a carrier oil. I roll it on the bottoms of my feet every time I leave the house. I make and use my own versions of Thieves Foaming Hand Soap and Thieves Cleansing Soap. I also use Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier, Household Cleaner and Fruit & Veggie Soak, all Young Living Essential Oils products.
Panaway: Panaway is a proprietary blend of Wintergreen, Clove, Helichrysum and Peppermint essential oils. When I first began using essential oils, I used Panaway to chase those change-of-weather, storm headaches way. Panaway is also a main ingredient in my pain creams, and a pain reliever on its own. I roll Panaway directly on wherever I have a muscle ache.
R.C.: R.C. is a proprietary blend of Eucalyptus Globulus, Eucalyptus Radiata, Eucalyptus Citriodora, Myrtle, Black Spruce, Peppermint, Pine, Lavender, Marjoram and Cypress essential oils. I add a couple of drops to my Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint trio in the diffuser at night to help breathe better. I also make my own vapor rub by adding several drops to coconut oil.
Copaiba: Copaiba enhances other essential oils and is one I add to my pain creams.
Purification: Purification is a proprietary blend of Lemongrass, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Myrtle, Citronella and Lavandin essential oils and is one of the ingredients in my Immunity Booster. I sometimes use Purification on my wool dryer balls or diffuse in not-so-nice smelling places to deodorize and neutralize odors. I’ve also used Purification directly on blemishes.
Frankincense: When I feel the crud creeping up on me, I add a couple of drops of Frankincense to Thieves, Lemon and Oregano, along with a carrier oil, to a vegetable capsule. Frankincense is also great for skin and those “fine” lines. I add a few drops to witch hazel for facial toner.
Stress Away: Stress Away is a proprietary blend of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea and Lavender essential oils. I start every day rolling this sweet blend on my wrists and behind my ears. Some days, I need to reapply. That roller fitment that comes with the kit? I put it on the bottle of Stress Away to convert it into a roller bottle.
Ningxia Red: Not an essential oil, but the Premium Starter Kit comes with 4 servings (2 packets) of this juice that I call my “Go Juice,” as in it gives me extra energy. Ningxia Red is a proprietary blend of whole Ningxia wolfberry puree; blueberry, aronia, cherry, pomegranate and plum superfruit juices; natural stevia extract; grape see extract; pure vanilla extract; and Orange, Yuzu, Lemon and Tangerine essential oils. No nasty crash, like with other energy enhancers. I drink 1 ounce every morning. You’ll want to keep Ningxia Red in the refrigerator and drink it cold. Trust me.
Aside from the Premium Starter Kit, there are other kits available that will give the benefits of being a Young Living Essential Oils member: Premium Starter Kit with Ningxia, $170; Premium Starter Kit with Thieves, $144; or the Basic Starter Kit, $45.
Are You Ready To Try Essential Oils? Here’s How:
There are several brands of essential oils and several ways to try essential oils. I would be most delighted if you chose to join me on my oily journey. If you would like more information or samples, please feel free to comment below or email me at khmullins@comcast.net.
You can order through my Young Living Essential Oils website, or you can order through my Hello-Essentials website. If you order through my Young Living Essential Oils website, click on Sign Up Here. If your order through Hello-Essentials, click on Get Some/Order Oils. Both options will take you to a Choose Your Membership Page. If you would like to purchase essential oils and/or other products, but don’t want to purchase a Premium or Basic Starter Kit to become a member, you can choose Retail Customer, instead of Member.
If you’d like to order a Premium Starter or Basic Kit and become a member, check the Member box and click continue. A box will pop up that asks if you would like me to be your enroller (yes, please), or if you prefer another, to provide their member number.
The next screen will ask you to choose your kit and diffuser and will ask if you want automatic monthly delivery, which is optional. The automatic monthly delivery is the Essential Rewards program, where you get points on the items you order that you can use to get free oils. Again, not being the best business person, I advise my customers to hold off until they get an idea of what oils they use the most and if they’re ordering around $50 a month, which is the amount required to participate in the Essential Rewards program. In addition to allowing you to use your Essential Rewards points toward free oils, Young Living Essential Oils also gives an oily gift at different intervals of your membership. You can change your monthly order and processing date as often as you like, up to the actual processing date. Do not click on Confirm Autoship if you choose to wait to join Essential Rewards.
On the same screen, click on Continue Enrollment, unless you would like to add additional items to your order, in which case, click Add More Products. If you choose to add more items to your order, you may qualify for this month’s promotional items (freebies), which are offered at 100, 190, 250 and 300 PV (personal volume, which usually is the same as the amount you spend, unless ordering items that have a lower PV than the wholesale price). I’ve had customers ask me for recommendations on oils and products that are outside of the Premium Starter Kit and who’ve included them with their kit order and received the free promotional items. Once you’ve finished adding items to your order, or if you choose not to, click on Next to finalize your order.
You will be asked for your contact information, mailing address, billing information, and Social Security Number or Tax ID number. Young Living Essential Oils asks for the latter, so as to generate a 1099, should you sell kits and other items and generate commission. The company is moving away from asking for a Social Security Number or Tax ID number until an individual makes enough commission to make generating a 1099 a necessity. Their website is secure.
I usually choose YL Ground Transportation as a shipping option. It’s $1 more than the cheapest option, but will get your order to you within a week. Shipping and tax on retail will add about $20 to your order.
We’re A Package Deal
When you enroll with me, not only do you have my support for as long as you need it (because I am in this for the long haul), you also get the following Welcome goodie bag from me: access to an essential oil education group, a Look Book that contains information on essential oil usage, an essential oils recipe book, 2 glass roller bottles with stainless steel rollers, 1 glass dropper bottle (perfect for your carrier oil), 2 plastic pipettes (disposable droppers) and 10 vegetable capsules – all of which is designed to get you started using your essential oils right away.
Future Savings
Good, quality essential oils are not inexpensive. During the course of this post, I’ve shared a couple of ways that I score free oils – Essential Rewards and monthly promotions. I’ve literally received hundreds of dollars of oils for free. Another way to bring the cost down or to even pay for your oils is to “do the business.” Young Living Essential Oils has a very generous compensation plan. In the same way that you have my support as a customer and friend, you will have my support on the business side of things. I am not an arm twister and, thankfully, belong to business groups who think the same way. You will have access to those same business groups.
In Closing
What better way to close then by showing you a picture of the Premium Starter Kit? Well, let me first thank you, if you have read all the way through this novel! I apologize for the length of this post, but I really wanted to be sure to include all the things that might be helpful if you’re interested in essential oils and want to take that plunge with me. Please feel free to let me know if I’ve missed anything, and/or if you have any questions. Comment below or email me at khmullins@comcast.net.
